ABOUT FACULTY OF
LETTERS
Faculty of Letters Udayana University was founded in 1958. It was four
years earlier than the University itself. The University was founded,
in 1962. It has developed a reputation for the quality of education and
cultural studies in Bali.
It has six departments: (a) Indonesian Literature; (b)
English Literature; (c) Local Language Literature;
(d) History; (e) Anthropology; and (f) Archeology. There are two
Diploma Programs: (a) Diploma One in Cultural Tourism and (b) Diploma
Three in Japanese Language and Culture. There is also an Indonesian
Language Course for Foreign Speakers called BIPA. It also has
postgraduate programs in Linguistics, Translation, and Cultural studies.

ABOUT BIPA
BIPA is a
Non-Degree Program. It is established to help foreign people learn the
Indonesian Language and culture of Indonesia both receptively and
productively. |

PROGRAMS
|
|
Semester Course
This program is conducted three times a year; January ~April, May
~ August, and September ~ December,. It requires at minimum three
students in a class
Special/ Private Course
It is available throughout the year and is designed for students who
wish to study in a flexible time and on the students need basis.

|
STUDENTS
|
|
Students from all walks of life
are welcome.
|
|
Overseas students who are going
to enter Universities in Indonesia.
Overseas students who are learning Indonesian in their home country,
and seek experience learning it in Indonesia.
Expatriates living and working in Indonesia
Business people with links to Indonesia.
Housewives.

|
LEVEL OF THE COURSE
|
|
There are four levels in the
course.
|
|
Elementary (level one)
Intermediate
(level two)
Advanced (level three)
|
|
Each level is one semester
instruction, based on tasks designed syllabus to encourage students
acquire the language in real life communication and the language for
academic purposes. Each level covers 280 academic hours.
|
|
|
PLACEMENT TEST
|
|
A placement test will be
administered prior to the commencement of the class. This will
ensure students to sit in an appropriate class level. The test will
consists of a brief interview and written test.
|
|
|
CLASSES AT BIPA
|
|
Semester course classes meet on
Monday through Friday from 8:20 am to 12:00 pm with 15 minutes
break in between. Private classes meet on a flexible day and time
schedule upon agreement with both parties.

|
|
INSTRUCTORS
|
|
Instructors at BIPA are
lectures of Udayana University holding university degree and teaching
qualification. They are a combination of multi-lingual and bi-lingual
speakers. Most of them have experienced the process of foreign language
learning, especially English and Japanese.

|
|
LOCATION
|
|
BIPA campus is located in the
center of Denpasar city, in the most beautiful island on earth, Bali.
It is next to Sanglah Public Hospital; It is about 500 meters from
Department Stores, Mc. Donald, Post Office, and other public
facilities. It is about 20 minutes to Ngurah Rai International Airport,
15 minutes to kuta, and 10 minutes to Sanur by car.

REQUIREMENT FOR APPLICATION
|
|
Curriculum Vitae
Copy of certificate of the last school attended.
Copy of academic record from the last school attended.
Statement of finacial guarantee and a copy of bank account of the
guarantor. (from applicant's home country)
Copy of valid passport (Min. 16 months validity).
Statement that applicant will obey all regulations of the Indonesian
Government during staying in Indonesia
Recent color photos (3x4 cm), (4x6) 7 copies each, and (2x3) 2 copies
(all in red background)
Health certificate. Recommendation of the Embassy or Consulate of Indonesia in applicant's home country

Semester course US $ 850 a
semester (minimum 3 students)
Private course US $ 20 per lesson.
Enrollment fee US $ 20 (non-refundable)
Miscellaneous expenses US $ 200

If you are
accepted, we will send you an acceptance letter by which you can have a
Sosial Budaya Visa. Then we will forward your application to the
Directorate General for High Education in Jakarta for further
permission. If you have a letter of permission from this office you can
have a student visa, Or you can just come to Bali using the
Social Budaya Visa, which is valid for six months and needs to be
extended 4 times during the period.
